Cardinal WR’s celebrate, Kurt Warner named starter in Arizona
August 31, 2008 by TJ · Leave a Comment
Fantasy owners can breathe a sigh of relief. Warner will have the chance to lead this team, at least for now. Warner has a much better arm, is more accurate, more experienced and it’s been said that the team plays a little better under his direction. This should bump Warner up in the rankings, but only as a mid to late round pick.
Rudi Johnson most significant of NFL final teams cuts.

Believe it! Rudi Johnson has been released from the Bengals after only two years agi being the workhorse for the team. The Bengals have announced Chris Perryas the new starter, with Kenny Watson as primary backup.
Other significant cuts include Marcus Thomas in San Diego who appeared to be LT’s backup. Roydell Williams was also released by Jacksonville after being slowed by injury in the offseason.
2008 Pre-Draft Rankings - Wide Receivers
August 27, 2008 by TJ · Leave a Comment
Wide Receivers are a pain to draft. This is the position that has the biggest variance in points earned based on league settings. Some leagues have a PPR setting, some don’t reward yards caught the same as yards gained on the ground. Due to this fact its hard to base value for any one league on any given player. What we’ll try and do here is be simple about this. We’ll base this on pure talent and the surrounding factors that can make an impact on any one player. Here are your top 40 FSB Ranked Wideouts.
- Randy Moss (New England) - Did you even think it might be someone else. The final numbers may not quite be as record breaking as 2007, but they will still be worthy of your first choice at WR.
- Terrell Owen (Dallas) - Another no brainer, the guy is just too big, too fast and too talented.
Cadillac Williams placed on PuP list, Graham stock rises

How did this guy ever get this nickname anyway. Regardless, Carnell Williams has suffered another injury that will keep him off the field for a minimum of 6 weeks of regular season action. Owners who feared Earnest Graham might lose playing time can be more confident in their draft pick.

<expletive here>!!!
Yes, this is why you try not to set a draft until the just before week 1. Someone is going to get hurt who you were really counting on. Let’s look at some of the meaningful injuries and how this will affect your season.
Derek Anderson (concussion) - Anderson left the game after a hard sack left him laying shaken on the field. If this turns out to be serious, think of Trent Green and how he has fared the last few seasons with concussion problems. This could be a big concern for owners looking to draft a top QB and Anderson would need to be 100% healthy to earn the kind of projected draft position he has been receiving. On an alternate note, we might finally get to see more of what Brady Quinn is made of.
Matt Hasselbeck (Back) - This doesn’t appear to be all that serious. He missed practice in preseason week 2, but should be ready for the next week.
Peyton Manning (Knee) - Still recovering from offseason knee surgery, but he should be inline for a return around the season opener.
Chad Johnson (Shoulder) - He suffered a severe hit that knocked him out of the game and likely the rest of the preseason. I would have to drop Johnson down a few draft slots after this. The Bengals receivers are so banged up right now they were forced to resign trouble child Chris Henry who will have to server a 4 game suspension as well. So no immediate help there.
Tavares Jackson (Knee) - Jackson suffered a sprained knee but should be good to go prior to teh end of the preseason.
Rudi Johnson (Knee) - He continues to miss playing time due to his injury, but he also should be back before the season opener.
Antonio Gates (Foot) - He had offseason surgery that put him on the PUP list. He has just been removed from that list and passed his physical. This is great news and he should be ready for the season opener.
Willis McGahee (Knee) - He had minor knee surgery recently, scary huh? Well, not for him, he appears to be healing well and claims he’ll be ready for week 1. Draft with caution.

Week 2 is complete and some of the rookies are shining and some just look like rookies. Instead of getting into detailed numbers, we’ll just give a list of who had solid games by position and we’ll keep this to who might be releveant this fantasy season right off the snap. It’s just week 2 and the rookies will be getting most of the playing time, so don’t over value the rookies, but definitely keep them in mind for the later rounds in your draft.
Running Back
Michael Turner (Atl), Chris Johnson (Ten), Ray Rice (Bal), Felix Jones (Dal) and Tim Hightower (Ari)
Quarterback
Ben Roethlisberger (Pit), Jay Cutler (Den), Matt Leinart (Ari), Brett Favre (N.Y. Jets), Eli Manning (N.Y. Giants), Matt Shaub (Tex), Drew Brees (N.O.)
Notably here are the QB’s that had very poor games or left the game injured…
Tavares Jackson (Min), Vince Young (Ten), Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay), Marc Bulger (St. Louis)
Wide Receivers/Tight End
Josh Morgan (S.F.), Jacob Tamme (Ind), Santonio Holmes (Pit), Calvin Johnson (Det)
Reggie Brown (Phi) left his game injured, if its serious we’ll update that in our news.
Let’s let one more week pass before we update our pre-season rankings.
Pennington latest fish in Miami’s pond.
August 11, 2008 by TJ · Leave a Comment
Good for Chad Pennington. It’s tough to give your body to a team for eight years and then have them cut you on short notice. Football like any other major sport is a business. So how will this affect us in the fantasy world? Not much. Chad is definitely an experienced leader and will bring much guidance to this very lost team. But the team has so many other issues that this just can’t fix everything. Don’t even bother drafting Chad as his relevance will be minimal.
Week 1 PreSeason Notes of Interest

First lets start off with running backs that opened a few eyes. Carolina Panthers half back DeAngelo Williams had 9 carries for 55 yards and 2 TD’s. He is competing with Jonathon Stewart who was not dressed for the game. He suffered a toe injury in the offseason. This definitely gives DeAngelo the uhh…front foot in the door as the starting RB. Rookie Chris Johnson of the Tenessee Titans also looked impressive on a 66 yard TD run. Johnson will add a new facet to the running game behind LenDale White’s bulldozer runnign style. LaMont Jordan had 19 carries for New England getting a score and 79 yards on the day. Siants back Aaron Stecker had a nice day with 39 yards and a TD on 7 carries. The big name out of Chicago wasn’t Matt Forte, but instead 2nd year man Garrett Wolfe who had 64 yards on 7 carries including a run of 42 yards. Maurice Morris on Seattle had a good day with 62 yards on 6 attempts. Ladell Betts and Clinton Portis both had solid outings. I am going to sneek this into the RB talk, QB Vince Young didn’t do much in the air, but he did look very good on scramble for 34 yards.
Matt Ryan leads the discussion as week 1 quarterback performances. He shook off any nerves for his NFL debut by going 9 for 15, 115 yards, 1 TD and no interceptions. Already he and Roddy White seem to be developing a good chemistry. David Garrard had very good day by way of arm and feet. He had a great run for 21 yards and later scored on a 1 yd TD run. Denver’s Jay Cutler looked impressive as he went 8 for 10, 59 yards and a 15 yard TD run. Matt Hasselbeck was sharp by going 7 for 8 for 70 tards and a score. Viking Tarvaris Jackson had an excellent day with 118 yards, 8/11 and a touchdown. Donovan McNabb rekindle interest by completing 10 of 13 passed for 97 yards and a TD. Brett Ratliff had a standout performance with 252 yards and 2 scores on 14 of 20 passing. While this means little since we know Favre is the starter, its comforting to know the Jets are capable of big yardage through the air. Finally, Jon Kitna had a score and 106 yards on only 7 attempts and completing six of them.
Jets Rookie David Clowney had a moster game with 176 yards receiving and 2 TD’s. Detroit WR Calvin Johnson had 4 catches for 78 yards. Saints Robert Meachem totaled 129 yards and a score on 4 catches. Redskin Ladell Betts added 41 yards receiving and a score to already good day of 41 yards on the ground. Roddy White in Atlanta had a TD and 47 yards on the day. His TD catch was impressive as Matt Ryan had thown behind him but White had the quickness to whip across the body and pull in a 25 yard catch for the score. Denver TE Tony Scheffler had 3 catches for 39 yards.
Let’s see if any of these names reappear in next weeks recap. Then we’ll take a look at adjusting the preseason rankings.
Favre traded to N.Y. Jets for draft pick
August 7, 2008 by TJ · Leave a Comment

We finally have an answer to the drama that developed over the last month or so. Favre was traded to the New York Jets for a conditional draft pick. Rumor earlier in the day was Favre was considering either the Jets or the Bucs. I wasn’t sure how Brett’s fantasy value would be affected by a trade to either of those two cities. However, I like his outlook in Jets green and white much better. He has a speedster in Laveranues Coles, a sure-handed target in Jerricho Cotchery and a highly touted young tight end in Dustin Keller. Not to mention Brett is 3-2 in games played at the Meadowlands, his new home away from home. He also had QB Ratings over 100 in the three wins and one of those losses dates back to 1992. It will be fun to see how #4 performs in his new surroundings.
