Week 12 has arrived early for the annual Turkey Day games. Need to replace a hurt player or bad matchup? Let’s see who can save your week. The players recommended should be available in roughly 50% or more fantasy leagues. Here are our top 3 (or so) free agent quarterback, running back and wide receiver pickups for the week:
Quarterback
- Shaun Hill (Det) – Hill has had a very strong season. Look for those numbers to continue against a young Pats secondary.
- Jon Kitna (Dal) – The ‘Boys are playing with new found confidence and Jon Kitna has been integral to that. He has 120+ passer ratings in his last two games. This week against a beatable New Orleans secondary, I don’t see why he can’t keep it rolling.
- Troy Smith (SF) – Has proven to be able to win and he has great weapons at his disposal.
Running Back
- Mike Goodson (Car) – Mike had a very good game again and looks to start again against Cleveland. If you need help this is your man.
- Keiland Williams(Was) – Portis is on IR now and Torrain is very questionable for the game. That leaves Williams as the probable starter. Could have a decent day simply due to workload.
- Chris Ivory (NO) – Reggie Bush may be back and steal carries, but Ivory has been the main guy for a few weeks now. Has shown some flashes of excellence.
Wideout/Tight End
- Steve Breaston (Ari) – He has been very solid as a possession receiver, good for PPR leagues. He also has come close to or met 100+ yards in 3 of his last 4 games. If he is still available he is better than your worst player! Grab him!
- Sidney Rice (Min) – Making his season debut last week with about 50 yards receiving. If he happens to be available pick him up as he will try to salvage his and the teams season.
- Blair White (Ind) – It appears Austin Collie will miss another game and White has been money in his absence. Ride this stud as long as you can.
2010 Week 10 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

It’s week 10 and the season is flying by. Hopefully you are enjoying it and continuing to improve your roster on a weekly basis. Let’s get right to it and see who can help the needy this week. The players recommended should be available in roughly 50% or more fantasy leagues. Here are our top 3 (or so) free agent quarterback, running back and wide receiver pickups for the week:
Quarterback
- Josh Freeman (TB) – This week is a slightly tougher matchup, but he has performed solidly for quite a few games now. If you need him, he is probably out there for you.
- Shaun Hill (Det) – Mathew “Mr. Glass” Stafford is out again, Hill is the scheduled starter. He put up great numbers in Staffords absence earlier, this week against Buffalo is a no-brainer.
- Derek Anderson (Ari) – He gets Seattle who is reeling from the beating the Giants handed them last week and they should play strong. Having said that, NY did put up 41 points and Arizona does have a few good receivers of their own. If you are desperate and nobody else is available, take a chance on Anderson.
Running Back
- Marshawn Lynch (Sea) – He is listed as questionable, but scheduled to play. Arizona has a really bad run defense and Lynch did rip off a long one against NYG last week. This could be the best matchup for him all year.
- Mike Goodson (Car) – Mike will start with DeAngelo and Jonathon out this week. He should get a lot of carries and he runs hard.
- Donald Brown (Ind) – Had a decent game a week ago with 50 yards. Is the main back this week, so in line to do some damage.
Wideout/Tight End
- Mario Manningham (NYG) – NY’s #1 possession receiver Smith is out and Mario will try to fill his shoes. Rising star and current NFL WR-TD leader Hakeem Nicks should draw 2 man coverage giving Manningham opportunity. Mario did score on a nifty play against Dallas 3 weeks ago, although as an outside receiver.
- Steve Breaston (Buf) – Breaston only had 3 receptions for 29 yards against a good Minnesota defense. This week he gets Seattle, not a bad defense, but they did relinquish 41 points to the Giants.
- Kevin Boss (NYG) – Eli found Boss in the end zone last week. Kevin has missed a lot of the season, and looks due to the emergence of Hakeem Nicks. Now with Steve Smith out however, I could see Eli looking for his old buddy Boss again for dependable red zone looks.
2010 Week 9 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

Week 9 in the 2010 season of Fantasy Football is amongst us. It seemed many of the available players who would usually be sound plays are on bye weeks, but there are still some good choices out there. The players recommended should be available in roughly 50% or more fantasy leagues. Here are our top 3 (or so) free agent quarterback, running back and wide receiver pickups for the week:
Quarterback
- Josh Freeman (TB) – Freeman has led his team to a 5-2 start. He doesn’t throw a lot of TD’s but he averages close to 250 yards passing per game and can rush some. Atlanta is a tough matchup this week, but he should deliver his consistent numbers.
- Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buf) – Fitz faces a Chicago team that usually can get to the QB. Still they have been thrown on this year and he has shown the ability to get the ball into his receivers hands this year for scores.
- Derek Anderson (Ari) – He is starting over Max Hall in a game at Minnesota. The Pats last week made the Vikings defense look very vulnerable and they have not had the same kind of sack happy defense they thrive on in weeks. Look for Anderson to make plays to Fitzgerald and Breaston in order to win.
Running Back
- LaGarrette Blount (TB) – Easily the most added free-agent running back this week after a huge 120 yard, 2 TD game. If he is available still grab him, as he should follow this performance up a number of future carries.
- Fred Jackson (Buf) – The Buffalo running game has improved much since Jackson has been named the starter. He is still available in many leagues though. He faces a Chicago defense that is always tough on the run, but teams have had success and Jackson should get numbers better than most free agent backs out there if you need them.
- Kevin Smith (Det) – With Best hurting, Smith had 12 carries for 50 yards and could see more of the same this week. It is the Jets he is facing though so temper expectations.
Wideout/Tight End
- Stevc Breaston (Ari) – What a comeback for Steve Breaston. He is still available in about half of all leagues. Derek Anderson is behind center again and that is an upgrade over Max “I hate everything about you” Hall.
- Steve Johnson (Buf) – He has caught 4 TDs in 4 straight games. Will it be 5? Pick him up and find out! Evans can’t catch everything and Johnson has good hands and is also a favorite target of Fitzpatrick now.
- Jacob Tamme (Ind) – Filling in for injured Dallas Clark, Tamme had a very good day 6 receptions, 64 yards and a score. This looks like it could be a repeatable performance on a weekly basis. Although a score every week is unlikely, he should get his fair share of end zone looks due to his size and hands.
