2010 Week 16 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

Week 16 is here and for most leagues this is championship week. Or you could be in a consolation bracket simply trying to salvage some pride and finish as best as you can. Either way, you might need some waiver wire help. Let’s take a look at a few players who could help bolster your roster. These players should be available in roughly 50%  or more fantasy leagues. Here are our top 3 (or so) free agent quarterback, running back and wide receiver pickups for the week:

Quarterback

  1. Tim Tebow (Den) – He accounted for 2 TDs last week, although he didn’t have much stats in passing yards. He has the nod to finish out the season as the starting QB and this week they may loosen the leash just a bit. If you are really unsure about your matchup, and can be OK with a similar performance from Tebow as last week. Give him the nod, scary proposition though in your championship game.
  2. Jon Kitna (Dal) – Kitna gets Arizona, so he should be in line for one of his better games this year..
  3. David Garrard (Jax) – Garrard gets a bad Washington team this week, but they are really worse against the run. However, that might play into Garrard’s style where he can take it to the box himself on a scramble.

Running Back

  1. Tashard Choice (Dal) – here could be a lot of healthy backs available to play the game, but Choice has a lot to prove for next season and he should make every touch count.
  2. Michael Bush (Oak) – He faces a soft Indy defense and seems to be getting goal line carries. If you need a spot to replace he probably could be counted on some cheap points.
  3. Ricky Williams (Mia) – A lot of teams have given up on Williams, but this week he could turn in a good performance against Detroit.

Wideout/Tight End

  1. Roy Williams (Dal) – Facing a weak Arizona secondary, Williams could be in line for a big play or two.
  2. Brandon Tate (NE) – This is a bit of a reach, but with the way Brady is spreading the ball, Tate could easily turn in a big game against Buffalo this week.
  3. Robert Meacham (NO) – If you desperate for a decent shot at a cheap TD, Meacham is available for many and with Brees at the helm has as good a shot as any to deliver.

2010 Week 15 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

Week 15 will surely mean you are in the playoffs so congratulations.

Quarterback

  1. Jason Campbell (Oak) – Campbell had a very nice game last week with over 330 yards passing and a couple of TDs. His Denver matchup suggests a very good one and he should do very well.
  2. Jon Kitna (Dal) – Washington has been beaten up defensively for some time now. Although, most of that damage has been against their poor run defense with Haynesworth out. Still, teams are also throwing on them and Kitna should be able to make enough plays to have a decent return on investment this week.
  3. David Garrard (Ind) – Garrard didn’t make many pass attempts last week, but he converted on half of them for 3 TDs. That’s being efficient. Indy has had a poo run defense and that could play into Garrard’s style perfectly. Mojo will run his heart out and Garrard will pick his spots for big pass plays. Garrard also has been a very good scrambler, just as the NY Giants a few weeks back.

Running Back

  1. Mike Goodsen (Car) – Stewart is starting and getting more carries, but that hasn’t seemed to slow down Goodsen’s production. He could have another good day against Arizona and there is the chance Stewart could re-injure himself.
  2. Tim Hightower (Ari) – He is owned in fewer leagues than you would think. Arizona starts a rookie QB, so Hightower could be in line for lots of touches.
  3. Tashard Choice (Dal) – I know fans are upset over the Vick autograph, but he is still a good play this week. Washington cannot stop the run so start Choice and hope Barber doesn’t get the starting nod.

Wideout/Tight End

  1. Louis Murphy (Oak) – Had a TD last week and on Denver has a great chance to have a very good day.
  2. Kenny Britt (Ten) – Kenny got the nod over Moss last week and had four catches. Expect him to do better this week, and Moss might play decoy this week as well.
  3. Earl Bennett (Chi) – Quickly becoming a guy Cutler likes to throw to, he is as good as a shot as any this week to score. Especially against a very poor Minnesota defense.

2010 Week 14 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

Week 14 comes crashing down and for some its the first week of the playoffs, for most its the final or next to last game of the year. Your team really should be set by now, but injuries and bad matchups can play it’s part. If your league is slim on quality players on the waiver wire, check out these guys who should be available in roughly 50%  or more fantasy leagues. Here are our top 3 (or so) free agent quarterback, running back and wide receiver pickups for the week:

Quarterback

  1. Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buf) – I think Fitz should rebound after a so-so performance against the Vikings last week. He faces the Bengals 20th ranked pass defense. If your starter is facing a bad matchup, take a 2nd look here.
  2. Mark Sanchez (NYJ) – He didn’t play well last week, but he seems to have good games against Miami. Not a bad option if your starter is hurt or playing a top ranked defense
  3. Alex Smith (SF) – Looks like A. Smithwill start this weak against a very bad Seattle pass defense. This bodes well for Smith who has Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree at his disposal. Still, it’s his first game back in weeks, so temper expectations and only start if you have no better option.

Running Back

  1. Chris Ivory (NO) – He has excelled latel;y in the running game and Sean Payton probably won’t stop him now. Pierre Thomas is still out, or if he returns it will likely be limited. Look for Ivory to continue being a productive fantasy back.
  2. James Starks (GB) – Starks could be the hot move down the stretch. Jackson and Kuhn have really done nothing at RB in Grant’s absence. Starks showed explosiveness and will likely get another look this week. Grab him now and see if he can fuel your playoff run.
  3. Tashard Choice (Dal) – Dallas has needed a boost to their run game and Choice showed them last week he deserves more carries. Coach Garrett said he would oblige that. Look for Barber to lose carries to Choice

Wideout/Tight End

  1. Earl Bennett (Chi) – Bennett and Cutler have formed a good relationship. Cutler throws the ball and Bennett catches it. What more could you ask for? Look for Bennett to earn more touches as he continues to earn Cutler’s trust.
  2. Kenny Britt (Ten) – It appears Britt will play this week. He was the main guy and should resume that role eager to pick up where he left off.
  3. Blair White (Ind) – He had an off night for the newcomer, but Austin Collie is still out and White has 3 TDs in 4 games. Manning will easily rely on White and Tamme while teams focus on Reggie Wayne.

2010 Week 13 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

Week 13 is upon us and some steals are to be had on the waiver wire. Take a look at who could be available to help your lineup this week. The players recommended should be available in roughly 50%  or more fantasy leagues. Here are our top 3 (or so) free agent quarterback, running back and wide receiver pickups for the week:

Quarterback

  1. Sam Bradford (StL) – If you haven’t bought into the hype, do so! This rookie has had a passer rating of over 100 for 3 games in a row. he had a career high 300+ yards and 3 TDs last week. He is incredible on 3rd down conversion with over 125 attempts. He is better than your current backup probably and/or your starter. Keep him around or plug him in for the playoff push should you need him.
  2. David Garrard (Jax) – Garrard has played well for most of the year. he doesn’t throw an enormous amount of TDs, but he has 17 to 11 interceptions. He is a consistent fantasy player who delivers what you expect week in and week out.
  3. Jon Kitna (Dal) – Kitna had a good outing on TurkeyDay. Romo will probably not be back for at least 3 weeks and possibly not at all this year. Expect Kitna to deliver 250 yards and 1-2 TDs a game from here on out.

Running Back

  1. Brian Westbrook (SF) – If you ever needed help this year at running back, this may be your biggest chance. Frank Gore will miss the remainder of the season with a hip injury. This promotes Brian Westbrook and Anthony Dixon to at least a time share. Westbrook used vary sparingly so far this year responded Monday night with a TD and over 130 yards on the ground. A lot will argue that the Arizona defense was lackluster at best, but still Westbrook is a must add and should be the main guy out of the backfield here on forth.
  2. Toby Gerhart (Min) – This is more of a one or two week replacement for Adrian Peterson who suffered an ankle injury Sunday. Gerhart should do very well in his absence.
  3. Anthony Dixon (SF) – This is the other half of the story in the loss of Frank Gore. Dixon who also got a TD along with Westbrook will also get carries including possible goal line touches. And Westbrook having a history of being Mr. Glass may go down leaving only Dixon. So if you missed out on Westbrook, there is a good chance Dixon is still there to keep on your bench or start if you are extremely week at RB.

Wideout/Tight End

  1. Steve Breaston (Ari) – Still available in almost half of fantasy leagues. yes, the play of QB and the lack of a good run game hurt him, but he has big play ability and good hands on a team that will likely have to throw many passes to stay in games.
  2. Kenny Britt (Ten) – This could be a sneaky pickup. He may not play this week although he has a chance, but he should be back next week if all goes well. Randy Moss has not done much, so Britt could get back into his groove of finding the ball for scores.
  3. Nate Washington (ten) – Speaking of Tennessee, should Britt miss more time, Washington has been the big guy in the passing game. If you need help, this could be a great play for a cheap TD and some PPR points.
