2008 Pre-Draft Rankings - Wide Receivers

August 27, 2008 by TJ · Leave a Comment

Wide Receivers are a pain to draft. This is the position that has the biggest variance in points earned based on league settings. Some leagues have a PPR setting, some don’t reward yards caught the same as yards gained on the ground. Due to this fact its hard to base value for any one league on any given player. What we’ll try and do here is be simple about this. We’ll base this on pure talent and the surrounding factors that can make an impact on any one player. Here are your top 40 FSB Ranked Wideouts.

  1. Randy Moss (New England) - Did you even think it might be someone else. The final numbers may not quite be as record breaking as 2007, but they will still be worthy of your first choice at WR.
  2. Terrell Owen (Dallas) - Another no brainer, the guy is just too big, too fast and too talented.

    2008 Pre-Draft Rankings - Tight End

    Antonio Gates
Tight End is always a position scarce with any real fantasy value. Unless you are in a point per Reception league then position hold slightly more value. Overall though, once the top 5 have come off the board, it almost doesn;t matter who you draft at that point. So why not go for a guy with some upside! OK, here is your Fantasy Sports Byte Top 15 Tight Ends:

    1. Antonio Gates (San Diego) - This is pretty much a perennial ink in. Gates possesses oft hands from his basketball days, runs great routes as there is always numerous offensive packages featuring him and he is simply a very big target. Expect  numbers similar to a second tier WR.
    2. Jason Witten (Dallas) - He has always been good and very consistent, but last season he was phenomenal (1100+ yards and 7 TD’s). If he improves on last season, we are going to have to bump Gates to the second spot. In fact, if you are in a PPR league, you take Witten over Gates as he had about 20 more catches last season and should continue to lead TE’s in that category.

      2008 Pre-Draft Rankings - Quarterbacks

New Orleans Saints Quarterbacl Drew Brees

It seems quarterback talent is a little thin this year. So consider straying away from the typical RB-RB draft strategy and grab yourself an elite quarter back early on. It all depends on your league settings of course. Here are your top 20 Fantasy Sports Byte ranked QBs:

      1. Tom Brady (New England) - I foresee a down year, but 40+ TD’s and 4000+ yards are still pretty awesome.
Peyton Manning(Indianapolis) - Don’t worry about the knee, it’s a non-issue. Peyton is money for 30 TDs and 4000 yards every year. Draft with confidence.
      2. Tony Romo (Dallas) You won’t find this guy available in the 5th round anymore. Owens, Witten, Barber and Crayton give him many excellent targets to work with.
