2010 Week 14 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

December 9, 2010 by TJ

Week 14 comes crashing down and for some its the first week of the playoffs, for most its the final or next to last game of the year. Your team really should be set by now, but injuries and bad matchups can play it’s part. If your league is slim on quality players on the waiver wire, check out these guys who should be available in roughly 50%  or more fantasy leagues. Here are our top 3 (or so) free agent quarterback, running back and wide receiver pickups for the week:

Quarterback

  1. Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buf) – I think Fitz should rebound after a so-so performance against the Vikings last week. He faces the Bengals 20th ranked pass defense. If your starter is facing a bad matchup, take a 2nd look here.
  2. Mark Sanchez (NYJ) – He didn’t play well last week, but he seems to have good games against Miami. Not a bad option if your starter is hurt or playing a top ranked defense
  3. Alex Smith (SF) – Looks like A. Smithwill start this weak against a very bad Seattle pass defense. This bodes well for Smith who has Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree at his disposal. Still, it’s his first game back in weeks, so temper expectations and only start if you have no better option.

Running Back

  1. Chris Ivory (NO) – He has excelled latel;y in the running game and Sean Payton probably won’t stop him now. Pierre Thomas is still out, or if he returns it will likely be limited. Look for Ivory to continue being a productive fantasy back.
  2. James Starks (GB) – Starks could be the hot move down the stretch. Jackson and Kuhn have really done nothing at RB in Grant’s absence. Starks showed explosiveness and will likely get another look this week. Grab him now and see if he can fuel your playoff run.
  3. Tashard Choice (Dal) – Dallas has needed a boost to their run game and Choice showed them last week he deserves more carries. Coach Garrett said he would oblige that. Look for Barber to lose carries to Choice

Wideout/Tight End

  1. Earl Bennett (Chi) – Bennett and Cutler have formed a good relationship. Cutler throws the ball and Bennett catches it. What more could you ask for? Look for Bennett to earn more touches as he continues to earn Cutler’s trust.
  2. Kenny Britt (Ten) – It appears Britt will play this week. He was the main guy and should resume that role eager to pick up where he left off.
  3. Blair White (Ind) – He had an off night for the newcomer, but Austin Collie is still out and White has 3 TDs in 4 games. Manning will easily rely on White and Tamme while teams focus on Reggie Wayne.

You should have made Alex Smith your #1 choice for replacement quarterback and all of your running back choices sucked. Your WR were not very good. This was a bad week for you.
