GET IN THE GAME
So you are here on a fantasy sports blog. I can only assume you are already in at least one fantasy sports league as a manager. However, if you are anything like me, you just can’t get enough! I went through many stretches where I tried my my hand at nearly every major fantasy sports provider out there. Then you realize you still have a job and family so you tone it down to your favorite leagues. I thought maybe I could share my knowledge of what different types of leagues there are and my experiences with them.
Free and Paid Leagues
This is where a majority of the fantasy players spend their time. However, just because the league is free to join does not mean that there isn’t a friendly pool involved. Yahoo, ESPN, CBS Sports and Sporting News are the bigger named providers of leagues. Most provide a premium league for roughly $10-$25 per manager depending on league size. This usually got you in-depth drafting tools, live stats and someone won a prize like a free t-shirt. Now, many of those in-game perks are provided free.
I love the free leagues and will always have at least one team in them. However, it will almost always be with a group of friends. I really hate the public leagues. They are too easy to win and provide no challenge. Not because of my skill, but the lack of effort, knowledge and/or presence from a lot of the other managers. Not all though, there are a lot of really awesome, knowledgeable managers in the public leagues, just not enough for the massive amounts of leagues.
I just came across a newer fantasy league that takes on a whole new approach to fantasy sports. They offer DAILY LEAGUES. Yeah, that’s right, I said daily leagues. You basically draft the available players for today’s games. Choose an opponent, either a friend or you can play a random existing member. Then you choose a cash prize. Then you go head-to-head, whoever has the most points at the end of the evening wins the prize. You can do this all season. You can play for free, or play for cash for as little as a $5 entry. I thought this was a pretty cool twist on traditional leagues. I went to the Fanduel.com site and saw they had rankings of winners and their $’s won.
